The Honda Harmony II HRT216 is a 21-inch push lawnmower having a Honda GCV160 engine. Like other mowers and power equipment, occasional difficulties may come up, including a neglected start. Fuel Issues
While fueling seems like a simple task, fuel issues are a major reason for starting problems. Ensure the fuel valve is switched into the “on” position prior to starting. Faulty fuel, often a result of storing the mower with fuel inside, is one of the first things to examine. Don’t keep fuel in the tank for an extended time period, particularly without a fuel stabilizer, especially if you’re storing it until the following season. When fuel gets stale, it oxidizes and causes accumulation in the carburetor, fuel lines and much more. Unfortunately, hard starts aren’t the only problem stale fuel can cause; you may run into issues with your carburetor or alternative fuel system components that can be costly to fix or replace. If you have stored your fuel or mower for more than a month, drain the gas tank and then fill it with fresh, clean gasoline.
Throttle Issues
Based on Plano Power Equipment, a rather common reason for a tricky beginning in Honda mowers is the throttle cable being stretched out. If this cable is stretched out or differently from adjustment, it will become tough to begin a cold engine because the choke won’t close. When starting a cold engine, always transfer the throttle to the “choke” position; the throttle lever should be in “quick” for a warm beginning.
Carburetor Issues
Unfortunately, carburetor issues can lead to a neglected start though you’re getting spark. Stale fuel may still be the issue; before storing, drain the carburetor bowl by removing the drain bolt and turning the gas valve into the “on” position. Some carburetor issues are more serious than stale fuel; should you suspect the carburetor is damaged in any way, take your HRT 216 to a licensed Honda service center.
Other Problems
If your mower still wo not begin, you could have a clogged fuel filter, stuck valves or an ignition error. Honda recommends taking your mower to an authorized Honda servicing dealer; if you are handy and know your way around little engines, then you can look in the shop manual for replacing parts or directions on the best way to repair certain components.
